Business Opportunities for UK based micro combined heat and power systems

A leading Japanese manufacturer of micro combined heat and power systems has officially begun a new phase of research and development in partnership with Newcastle University

As part of ongoing inward investment and research activities being carried out by the corporation in partnership with the North East’s Centre of Excellence for new and renewable energy.

A new 9.9kW bio-fuelled combined heat and power (CHP) system is now in operation in the north east with a further 25kW system due to be installed at the centre later in the year. These two systems will be developed in parallel with the existing bio-fuelled CHP system currently in operation.

The new system will be integrated with the existing oil-fired boiler system at the animal husbandry facility, to offset both its heat and electricity costs. The heat from the system will be used to heat the green houses used at the farm for crop research.

According to the Combined Heat and Power Association, the European Union is now the home of the world’s largest CHP industry, with around 104 GWe installed capacity. Nearly 40% of the electricity produced from cogeneration is produced for public supply purposes, often in connection with district heating networks.

Packaged CHP systems of less than 1MW are the most versatile and widely adopted combined heat and power system used already in the UK, being installed in residential, commercial and retail buildings around the UK. The UK Government has set targets for installed CHP capacity to reach 10,000 MWe by 2010. The latest energy projections for the UK anticipate that by the end of 2010, 10% of the total electricity supply will come from CHP.

The North East is at the forefront of some of the most promising alternative energy advances in the UK and this further endorses the region’s reputation as a centre for excellence in energy technologies.

North East England is home to 588 overseas companies from 32 countries, employing over 27Feature Articles,000 people therefore making an ideal place for overseas investors looking for http://www.investnortheastengland.co.uk/page/index.cfm”> business opportunities in the UK or http://www.investnortheastengland.co.uk/page/sectors.cfm”> business opportunities in England.
