Rhino Tuff PC-2005 Manual 5:1 Pitch Spiral Coil Binding Machine with Inserter Product Review
The Rhino Tuff PC2005
includes both a binding punch and coil inserter for binding documents
with 5:1 pitch spiral coil. Sometimes referred to as the Rhino PC2000
this machine can help you achieve the tightly wound look that you can
only get with five to one pitch coil. The inserter on this system is designed to make it easier to use longer coils for binding your custom sized books and documents.
Overview: - The Rhino Tuff PC2005
includes both a binding punch and coil inserter for binding documents
with 5:1 pitch spiral coil. Sometimes referred to as the Rhino PC2000
this machine can help you achieve the tightly wound look that you can
only get with five to one pitch coil.
- Like the PC-2004 (the 4:1 pitch version of this machine), the PC-2005 includes a unique and innovative coil inserter.
- The inserter on this system is designed to make it easier to use longer coils for binding your custom sized books and documents.
Strengths / Features: - Although
there are a huge number of four to one pitch spiral coil binding
machines available on the market, the choices for five to one pitch
machines are somewhat limited. In fact there are only a handful of
desktop binding machines that punch the five to one pitch hole pattern.
The Rhino PC2005 is one of these machines.
- The coil inserter
on the PC2005 is designed for use with plastic coils from 6mm to 30mm
in diameter. However, 5:1 pitch coils are only available in sizes up to
one inch (25mm). This means that electric inserter on this machine can
be used to bind documents with all of the available sizes of 5:1 pitch
spiral coils.
- Like the entire line of Rhino modular binding
equipment the PC2005 is constructed out of heavy duty metal components.
The excellent construction of this machine will reduce the amount of
maintenance that it will require. In fact, the only part on this
machine that should need replacement is the rubber wheel on the coil
inserter.
- The PC2005 offers a unique coil inserter that can
make inserting coils of all lengths easier. It is designed for use with
elements that are between six and thirty six inches long. It uses a
small chute on the right hand side of the machine to help guide your
coil onto the documents and also uses manderels to help ensure that
your coil spins onto your books every time. Plus, it has a special
lexan document guide to help you position your books perfectly for the
inserting process.
Weaknesses / Limitations: - The
punch on the PC-2005 actually has a fairly small capacity. It is only
capable of punching 12 sheets of 20lb paper at a time. Light volume
users shouldn't run into too many problems with this smaller punching
capacity. However, users who are looking to produce large numbers of
bound presentations per day will probably find that this punch will be
slow for their needs.
- It is hard to believe that Rhino would
make the PC-2005 for inserting longer coils and not include any
disengageable dies on the punching part of the machine. The fact that
it doesn't have any disengageable punching pins means that users who
try to punch longer documents (or any document other than an 11" sheet)
will end up with a half-hole hanging off the edge of their page.
- The
design of the coil inserter to the PC2005 makes it better suited for
handling longer coils. However, this machine is far more difficult to
use than a roller style coil inserter. For users who bind documents all
the time and can learn to use this machine properly it will most likely
be faster. However, learning how to use this machine and set it up can
be really difficult. Companies with multiple operators or with
employees that don't bind books every day may want to consider a
machine that is easier to use.
Recommendation: - The
Rhin-o-Tuff PC2005 which is sometimes called a 5:1 pitch PC2000, has an
innovative coil inserter that is designed to make using longer coils
simple and easy.
- However, this machine is difficult to set up
and difficult to use for inexperienced users. Plus, it doesn't lend
itself to punching longer sized documents.
- For users who have
the time to play with this machine and learn to use it, the PC-2005 may
offer increased productivity. However, for most organizations
, this
machine is not a great fit.
